SHORT FILMS

Where were you ?

Director: Dan Emmerson

A bittersweet portrait of Britain on its last legs as a part of the EU. The state of the nation. A time when it’s never felt like more of an island. Young people have been deserted and lied to by a political regime they don’t want to be a part of. Still living, loving and laughing amid the madness. The past is the present, the future is prologue. Where were you?

Cafe Cicatriz

Director: John Bahat

Max craves human connection. But he can’t bare to expose his truth.

Bapou

Director: Jackson Payne & Jack Layfield

Bapou reflects on Johnny's journey as he strives to find his way from a hectic, drug-fuelled, misspent youth to a contemporary fine artist. He reflects upon how much work he has put in to create a new life for himself and all the bumps along the way. Shot over four years (2017-2021), we follow Johnny around his hometown of North London as he tells us his very personal tale firsthand.

Given a six-year custodial sentence for armed robbery and possession with the intent to supply in 2007 at the age of 19, prison had a profound impact on Johnny. Inside, he found a love for art and eventually developed this passion into a personal practice and portfolio of works. Towards the end of his sentence, he was granted a day's release to attend an interview for a place at Central St. Martins School of Art. He got accepted and passed with a first-class honours bachelor's degree three years later

Shaun Ryder & The Salford Sioux

The Happy Mondays Hallelujah

Director: Glenn Kitson

Utilizing vintage footage of the Happy Mondays, Glenn Kitson has fashioned an epic psychedelic trippy video for this new mix of Mondays' classic Hallelujah.

The visual also pays homage to people involved in the band and the track, who are no longer with us: Tony Wilson (Hacienda/Factory Records owner), Martin Hannett (Joy Division producer), singer Kirsty Maccoll and Andy Weatherall (who remixed the original track).

Lesson 7

Director: Neil Linpow

Having downloaded a self-help program devised and narrated by the enigmatic MAX, we follow ASH as he prepares to tackle Lesson 7: Confronting death. What begins as a seemingly innocent and melancholic trip to a near-deserted hospital ward in the late hours becomes a twisting journey of anguish and manipulation.

Colour me

Director: Martin de Thurah

We all contain darkness. A door to a strange place, where the world falls apart and becomes unrecognizable. A floaty reality, almost dreamlike. How do we respond when we have to face our own fears and mortality, and is it possible to find tranquility within the world of our nightmares?

These themes are explored by the new art project Color Me, a collaboration between Danish director Martin de Thurah and Active Child, the musical alias of American singer, songwriter and producer Patrick Grossi. De Thurah has combined sculpting, live-action recordings and visual effects with the trembling and distorted sound of Active Child’s track ”Color Me” to create a haunting and visually innovative film - one of his most ambitious projects to date.

Olga Steinepreis

In the modern world, we live under the influence of stereotypes shaped by advertising and social networks trying to convince us that nothing can change with the birth of a child, whose life fits so easily into a mother's.

I’ve been on maternity leave for nine years, the last three of which I've been a mother of three children. My daily grind seems endless and absorbs me. Sometimes, I even feel like I'm succeeding, but most of the time, I feel overwhelmed by the daily chores, and my efforts to become a better version of myself seem futile.

I want to live a life in which my feelings, interests and goals matter.

And once I have a dream….

ISAAC LAMB

In Pastis & Hashish, Vol 1

A love letter to Marseille and its youth by Isaac Lamb

Capturing a different side of Marseille, this project is a sun-drenched account of the coastal city, capturing kids stretched out on rocks sunbathing or looking clear-eyed into his lens, visibly comfortable.

This story encapsulates so much of what Isaac loves about the place. He speaks about the geography of the city, its mountainous landscapes and coastal mouth that opens onto the Mediterranean sea and the melting pot of Moroccan, Tunisian and Algerian cultures that seep into the city
